We recently tested the Workation concept successfully in Sardinia and soaked up some more sun and dolce vita. But this was not the first time. Last year around this time we worked from Fuschl in Austria. Then for lunch break a quick jog around the lake with this gigantic autumn panorama. Autumn rocks, so does workation. Have you already tried it out?

Exactly one year ago today (damn, one year ago again!!!) it looked like a winterwonderland here and all of Holland went crazy. Everything was frozen: canals, rivers, lakes, puddles. It didn't matter if there were skates or not, everyone was on the ice - rolling, tumbling, slurping or gliding elegantly. What fun and such a welcome break from the eternal Corona monotony.
This year there was not a single snowflake so far, nor did the temperature drop below zero, so I am all the more grateful for our incredible winter week in Lapland. In a fortnight we'll be heading home and onto our skis. Hopefully we'll be able to soak up a bit of winter feeling once again. Fingers crossed.

Was it cold? Oh yeah! Minus 33 degrees. Without firing up the wood stove all night, it would have been quite frosty. But under the thick duvets and thanks to the merino “Unterbux”, only the tip of my nose got cold. But it didn't matter anyway, because I had been looking forward to this last night in the Aurora Glamping Dome for nine days. And it was magical! All night long, the stars twinkled in the sky and later the Northern Lights had a party and danced non-stop for us. Have you ever experienced such magical nights?

Don´t look back in anger, look ahead! Today marks the one-year anniversary of when the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic. This virus changed our lives. It hit humanity globally and unprepared. The world came to a screeching halt and a year later we are still in the middle of it. But I see light at the end of the tunnel and won´t give up my optimism that we will soon be able to explore the world again. Hopefully, however, with more respect for our unique planet.

How grateful I am for having had the chance to travel at least within Europe this summer – especially when you see more and more chances diminishing for a vacation abroad for the upcoming autumn holidays. Do you currently have travel plans or did you also have to throw them all overboard?

So sad that spring and the tulip flowering season are passing by so quickly. But it was a blast! I only feel sorry that you were not able to enjoy it. This pleasure was reserved for the Dutch this year and those like us who have the privilege to live here. Hopefully I could at least add some colour and a smile to your feed and face.

I know I have been fairly quiet recently – always falling back into old patterns of behaviour. Even my family said, if I don´t post here on IG, there is no reason to follow me anymore. Ouch! But right they are, my beloved travel companions.

Bye the way. This image is home. We explored a lot of the Netherlands recently and there is still such a lot to discover. What I particularly like about this image is, that it transmits a unique calmness. To be more precisely, it is the calm before the “storm” on New Year ’s Eve. Ever celebrated NYE in the Netherlands? Only then then you might know what I am speaking about. They go absolutely wild here!

Even lions are fans of Mercedes Unimog. Poor Overlanders! They haven´t been seen since their amazing wildlife encounter.
Just joking. No need to travel far to encounter the “big five”. Safari Park Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands is the largest wildlife park in Europe. With lions, elephants, gorillas and many, many other species roaming around … This part of Brabant feels a little like Africa. @beeksebergen

If you had one guess... What would you say, where has this picture been taken?

It´s neither Mississippi, the Amazonas, nor somewhere in Africa. In deed it is in the Netherlands. Yes, you heard right. Go on big five safari in Beekse Bergen @beeksebergen near Tilburg and get acquainted with incredible animals there.
You can even discover the park from the water during a relaxing boat safari. Just step aboard the Livingstone safari boat and admire the animals in, on and alongside the water

Wait...isn't there something missing here? When visiting Texel, I was wondering about the ‘half’ barns dotted across the landscape. With their asymmetrical shape, these sheep barns are a very typical feature of the Texel landscape. This special shape is no accident. Because of the wind on the island, the barn door faces east, the sheltered side. They served as storage places for hay and other feed for the sheep on the island. But there is also something wrong. I cheated with colours. Indeed the meadow was lush and green but I decided to add a more early autumn feeling to it.

I travelled a lot the last month without telling or posting much about it. It just did not feel right and somehow I also lost my interest in trivial social media activities when the good is close by. It always feels so much better to step outside and enjoying the world around you. So we were exploring our home, The Netherlands and discovered a lot of beauty around us - Texel for example. The island of Texel is located in the Wadden Sea and unique natural reserve.

Is environmentalism either a luxury of the latte-sipping rich or the “idealistic alternative crowd”? What do you think?
We flew around the globe to Cambodia in April/May which made me having a bad conscience already. So we decided at least to support mainly eco-conscious, sustainable tourism there but realised there were almost no middleclass-offers. All accommodation or tours were either for the younger backpackers or on the other hand the luxury travellers like this beautiful five star “green village” resort Phum Baitang in Siem Reap. But almost no offers in between.
I think this urgently needs to change, as I am sure there is most certainly a rising number of customers like us seeking a ‘green’ experience for reasonable prices and a minimum of standard.
